Lately I have been developing a series of prototypes for a new console table design. I’ve been hashing out a few iterations of this and it’s been fun. The criteria are for a minimalist table focusing on colored metal components as well as solid wood components. Strength, rigidity and stability are criteria that I needed to work with while developing a clean, contemporary aesthetic. This console table design features interchangeable metal components to update the color if necessary. Designing the table so it can be updated also extends the longevity of the design… it is less likely to end up in a landfill in the future.
Of course, the metal color would need to complement the wood. Cherry is a warmer wood whereas maple provides a whiter look. More tables with alternative woods in process, mainly mahogany and dark walnut. The footprint of the console table or dimensions, adhere to average console table sizes. This console table design is perfectly suited alongside a sofa or along a wall as it takes up very little space. There is hardly any embellishment in this series aside form the natural woods and colored metal posts…. a style that appeals to me.

Uniquely designed cherry and steel console table. Both steel and wood are combined to create a modern, contemporary look. A unique, minimal design creates a narrow profile through the use of two legs instead of four. The feet, lower stretcher and top are shaped out of solid cherry. The solid cherry top incorporates an under bevel along its edges for a streamlined effect. The frame is environmentally friendly powder-coated steel and available in a selection of contemporary colors. The powder-coated steel legs contrast nicely with the natural cherry top. Surfaces are hand scraped and formed. Meticulous attention is provided to both detail and finishing. The table is available as either a smaller console table or a larger hall table. The wood is not stained and deepens to a rich color over time. This console table is finished with multiple coats of thinned tung oil, polished and waxed.

Uniquely designed console table with curved, wishbone shaped legs. Shaped, curved maple legs with cocobolo feet. Metal is incorporated into the design. The curved top is figured bloodwood and the metal components have a satin finish to nicely contrast with the deep bloodwood. Surfaces are hand scraped and formed. Meticulous attention is provided to both detail and finishing. The table is available as either a smaller console table or a larger hall table. The wood is not stained and attains a natural patina over time and with exposure to ambient light. This console table is finished with multiple coats of thinned polymerized tung oil, polished and waxed.
I’ve begun work on a pair of contemporary styled console tables. They will serve as either hall tables or console tables depending on the application. These pieces are purely speculative and therefore I have the liberty of pursuing some designs I’ve had in my mind for a while now. The overall dimensions of either of the tables is similar but they differ in style. One of the hall tables incorporates curves in the legs and top whereas the second table has angular features. After some experimentation with sketches, drawings and small models I finalized the designs. I purposely designed these tables to have different styling from each other whereas the aesthetic I am following is similar for the most part. In other words, the hall tables are not very radically different.
